The Social Entrepreneurship Certificate Program, offered by the University of the Pacific’s Global Center for Social Entrepreneurship and Center for Professional and Continuing Education, is a six-month online curriculum where students learn to combine business acumen and social mission to enact tangible impact in the world.

Course Schedule:

Gain foundational knowledge and explore the broad field of social entrepreneurship. This course introduces students to the history, theory, practice, and emerging trends in social enterprises around the world.

Business Plans for Social Entrepreneurial Organizations (October 14th – December 8th, 2012)
In this course students learn to develop feasibility studies and evaluate business plans in the context of social entrepreneurship, including social enterprises and nonprofit organizations.

Monitoring & Evaluation for High Impact Social Mission Organizations (January 6th – March 2nd, 2013)
The final piece of the curriculum challenges students to develop measurable outcomes and systems for monitoring and evaluating social impact and return on investment from a social enterprise.

The Professor:
Professor and Practitioner Martín Burt is the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Fundación Paraguaya. For over 25 years, Martín has been a pioneer in applying microfinance, microfranchise tools, youth entrepreneurship and financial literacy to address chronic poverty in Paraguay and around the world. Fundación Paraguaya has supported 35,000 micro entrepreneurs who create 19,000 new jobs each year and its agricultural school is breaking new ground by demonstrating that wellmanaged sustainable agriculture high schools can be profitable and by helping young people learn to think of themselves as rural entrepreneurs.
Burt is also Co-founder of Teach a Man to Fish a global network with 2,000 members in 119 countries that promotes “education that pays for itself,” and is establishing self-sufficient schools with 50 partner organizations in 27 countries. Martín is a graduate of the University of the Pacific and George Washington University. He has been honored with the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship, Inter-American Development Bank Award of Excellence for Social Enterprise, and the Schwab Foundation’s Social Entrepreneur Award.

Upon satisfactory completion of all three courses, students will receive a hard-copy Certificate in Social Entrepreneurship and 9 units of academic credit from the University of the Pacific’s Center for Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE).
