Running since summer 2009, the Global Center’s Social Entrepreneurship Certificate Program is an online program teaching enrollees everything there is to know about starting, running, or improving a social enterprise. Taught by practitioner and Professor Martín Burt, the three part course series is one of a kind. The material is valuable not only to current or aspiring social entrepreneurs, but to anyone seeking to learn the newest, most effective, and valuable business skills and techniques.
Social Entrepreneurs identify a chronic social or environmental problem and use entrepreneurial principles to create innovative for-profit businesses, social enterprises, or sustainable nonprofits that permanently eradicate the underlying causes. Traditional charity and “band-aid” assistance are only temporary, and do not get to the root of social issues – social entrepreneurship provides financially sustainable, systemic change.
The Certificate Program teaches students to combine business acumen and social mission to develop not just the best business in the world, but the best business for the world. The three courses can be taken individually, to accommodate students with varying levels of experience, or all together, for a discounted rate and the most in-depth business awareness. Because it is an online program, courses can be completed at your own pace and from any location. Additionally, those enrolled come from across the globe, giving you the benefits of your peers’ unique perspectives, in-country knowledge, and development experiences. Enrollment also partners you with the Global Center for Social Entrepreneurship, and their international network of distinguished organizations and businesses, funding resources, conferences, and competitions.
The first course begins August 5th, 2012. Pacific students, alumni, and staff receive a discount. For more information on this program, please click here.
